Day Trip to AA x 2
April 18th, 2017 by Jeffrey Lubeck

The softball and baseball teams from Michigan State University travel 63 miles to the southeast to Ann Arbor, Michigan today to take on the Wolverines of the University of Michigan.

Both games are scheduled to start at 6PM.  Both games will be streamed live on BTNPlus and BTNToGo.  According to MSU and BTN, the softball game is scheduled to be telecast on BTN.  Note:  Yesterday DirecTV noted a “New” program change and listed the baseball game as being on BTN. Either way we will see MSU at UofM.

Both UofM squads are nationally ranked.  Technically, today’s baseball game is a extra scheduled contest and considered a non-conference game.

Softball preview is [here].

Baseball preview is [here].

Looking at the travel map as of 10AM (EDT) it appears heading to Ann Arbor via U.S. 23 could be tricky.

When I am going North or South, I stay away from that particular piece of concrete – best to go US127 out of EL to Jackson etc. US 23 is a nightmare north of I94

You are correct, Sir. It can be a nightmare even when work is not being done on it. Currently $120 million in road and bridge work is being done between Brighton and AA.

MSU football recruit issued MIP during recruitment visit
    By Marie Weidmayer

    April 17, 2017 9:05 pm

MSU football recruit Jacub Panasiuk was issued an alcohol citation on Jan. 14 during his official recruitment visit to MSU.

Panasiuk signed his National Letter of Intent for MSU on Feb. 1. He is a three-star defensive end recruit.

On March 31, Panasiuk paid a fine of $155 to 54B District Court.

Panasiuk will join his brother, sophomore defensive tackle Mike Panasiuk, on the team once summer football training camp begins.

Moving to the lighter human interest side of this post…

All Everything Starling Marte of the Pittsburgh Pirates has been suspended 80 games (plus post-season if the team qualifies) for use of the illegal Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) nandrolone. One option to fill the Center-Field position would be 3rd basemen Junh Ho Kung. Ooops that cannot happen as Kung is stuck in his native South Korea after Immigration Services denied him entry into the U.S. after being convicted for 3rd DUI. Andrew McCutchen is slated to move from RF to CF.

Think this is an isolated incident and not an indicator of a return to player abuse of PED’s. Think again… Eight major-violation suspensions of players on MLB rosters in the last year+.

Nandralone has been on the banned substance list for most sports list since 1974. Background [here].

Entry issues everywhere. Pretty sure there’s still an active ban in Metropolitan Columbus, OH on a suspect looking very similar to I Believe. Subject was last seen post-game Bucs/Spartans 2015 wearing nothing, sprinting while clutching a can of Krylon Green in one hand and half empty jar of Sorghum in the other. At least 5 moms spent weeks trying to remove the combination Green/Sorghum from their hair and Scarlet jerseys. Haircuts and new jerseys were mysteriously provided, anonymously. The football program had No Comment.

And now this on tax day–what say you Jeff?? (Hoping all will recognize as fake news.)

IRS Announces Refunds Will Come In Form Of Forever Stamps This Year

WASHINGTON—Stating that the policy change represented the kind of reform taxpayers have long demanded, the IRS announced Tuesday that all refunds for the 2016 fiscal year will be disbursed in the form of Forever stamps. “Persons anticipating a refund will receive a ream of Forever stamps equal to the expected amount within six to eight weeks of filing their taxes,” said IRS commissioner John Koskinen, explaining that someone with a $500 tax refund, for example, will receive an envelope containing 1,020 stamps, or roughly 51 booklets of the 49-cent postage. “We’re very excited about this change, and we think the public will be equally enthusiastic about getting a refund they can use immediately to mail a variety of items without having to bother with the extra step of purchasing stamps with cash.” Koskinen added that while a refund denominated in Forever stamps was not optional, taxpayers were free to choose among American flag, classic car, and Woodstock themes.

Are you saying it didn’t happen? NFR was interviewed 3 times as a rumored “associate” of the suspect. “You know this man!” was the first session. He replied “No, I don’t know this man, or beast.” A second time they continued “Surely, you knew this man!” He replied “No, and don’t call me Eeyore, er Shirley”. Finally, they insisted “You did, you did know this man!” A third time he responded in his best french accent: “no, and go away before I taunt you a second time”. Just then, a rooster crowed. NFR hung his head in shame having denied the I Believore three times. He now wanders the Northern Michigan Wilderness, monitors the police frequencies of all counties in Ohio, and sings a song that sounds akin to “Eeyore come back! You can blame it all on me”.

Women’s Golf will be in Mainsville, OH (wherever that is) for the B1G Championships this weekend.

    * Women’s Tennis beat NE and IA last weekend. They can guarantee a top-four B1G finish by beating fifth-place IL (home, Friday, 4 PM EDT), and finish the regular season at 8-1 NW on Sunday.

    * Softball might be on BTN Friday at 4 PM EDT when it hosts OSU in the first of a three-game series.

    * Baseball travels to Maryland this weekend.

    * Rowing appears to be involved in some double-dual meets in Cambridge, MA this weekend

    Tigers 7 Rays 6 in 8th inning.

Justin Wilson, fresh, strikes out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Final inning of Tigers at Rays found Detroit leading 7-6.

K-Rod to face Kiermaier, Longoria and Miller (2-3-4 hitters) with a 7-6 lead in the 9th.

Up a run, Francisco Rodriguez walks the lead-off batter in the bottom of the ninth inning, which is not ideal. It’s Kevin Kiermaier.

Rodriguez then allows a double to Evan Longoria. Even less ideal.

And a few moments later, all three are on base with nobody out. Walk, double, intentional walk.

K-Rod gets a dramatic bases-loaded strikeout and Rays manager Kevin Cash tossed for arguing 3rd strike.

Home plate ump Larry Vanover didn’t ask for appeal to 1st base ump, which displeased Cash (and batter Steven Souza).

Morrison then grounded into fielder’s choice to second, Longoria to third, Kiermaier scored, Longoria to third, Miller forced out at second. Longoria scored on throwing error by shortstop Iglesias.

    Rays win 8-7.

So…..K-Rod gets a double-play ball to end game, but SS Jose Iglesias stumbles, taking a knee to the face and makes an errant throw lets another run score.

    Rays win 8-7.

Jose Iglesias lay face down for several moments, then walked off field gingerly but under his own power with athletic trainers.

It was a strange, strange game. It was not strange at all how the Tigers’ bullpen blew it.

In This case the BP may actually NOT be held accountable for this loss, as once again the Wunderkind fails in his job How do you start and outfield of a part timer and 2 rookies – their errors led to the 5-1 Rays lead which eventually the Tigers couldn’t deal with.

How was the infield fly rule not called when Longoria let the popped up bunt drop? (nice base running by Jones – kneeling at home)

The Tigers will win nothing as long Ausmus is the Mgr – nothing – write it down, folks, write it down.

Tiger Woods had back surgery yesterday – my friend Mike is here (he has had 4 back surgeries since a car rear ended him at a stoplight in 2003) and hasn’t hit the ball the same ever since – So Tiger is done. Since they caught him using growth hormones or stem cells, he has never been the same.

True, he’s unlikely to never don another green jacket, Claret Jug, Wanamaker or the US Open trophy.

Drugs? Allegedly. Those house calls that Toronto doc made were for golf lessons not treatment for PEDs,… Mark Steinberg swears it’s true!
