MSU at #16 Purdue Game Thread
February 19th, 2017 by Kindle

The Boilermakers outrebounded the Spartans, 36-23 in East Lansing. Izzo wants his players to change that, specifically on the defensive glass to prevent kick-out shots from the perimeter. Izzo said his big men need to “be a little smarter in there.”

On Saturday, Michigan State (16-10, 8-5 Big Ten) faces its toughest test of Big Ten play: a road game at Purdue (21-5, 10-3)

  • Purdue has won four straight games and vaulted to a three-way tie with Maryland and Wisconsin atop the conference standings.
  • Michigan State has only faced one of the three so far this season. Purdue came into East Lansing on Jan. 24 and handled the Spartans, 84-73.  That game was tied at 39 at the half.

• All five of Purdue’s losses this season have come by single digits. Caleb Swanigan, a one-time MSU commit, leads the Big Ten and ranks second nationally in rebounding at 13 per game. Swanigan ranks second in the conference in scoring at 18.7 points per game.
